Paul Westermann

Paul followed the long way of his supervisor, Dr. Ralph Evins, from Switzerland to Vancouver Island. In Switzerland, he studied at ETH Zurich pursuing a Masters in mechanical engineering. His studies focussed on a wide set of energy related research including wind turbines, building controls and electricity demand forecasting. His greatest achievement was the development of a small urban wind turbine. A prototype of the turbine has been installed in the Swiss alps, at the German sea side and even in Rio de Janeiro during the Olympics.

Here at UVic, Paul focusses on building systems. He wants to apply machine learning techniques to reduce the big amount of energy used in buildings.
