The Institute for Integrated Energy Systems (IESVic) is seeking to fill two roles as IESVic Fellows: a Research Coordinator and an Analyst. Reporting to the Director, the Fellows will use their knowledge and skills to enhance the IESVic mission. The Fellows will support initiatives of strategic importance through development, facilitation and execution of research activities. The Fellows will use their knowledge of energy system decarbonization, electrification, alternative fuels, policy, energy conversion, built environment, and behaviour to accelerate the transition of the Canadian economy to a more sustainable future. What you will do:
Working with outside agencies such as municipalities, industry, government and utilities, the Research Coordinator will bridge the gap between internal research capacity and external needs. This includes working with faculty to initiate and manage projects, prepare funding proposals, and communicate findings. The Coordinator will build partnerships and use their knowledge and communication skills to amplify the work of the centre. They will prepare written technical reports that are professionally formatted and concise. They will communicate activities to a broad range of stakeholders through social media and online platforms. The Coordinator will support collaboration and knowledge mobilization by organizing workshops, meetings, conferences, and seminars.

The Research Analyst will work closely with the Coordinator and assist IESVic in leading change in the areas of energy and sustainability. While there will be some overlap in roles, the Analyst will bring the skills and knowledge needed to immediately support short-term research objectives of importance to external partners. The Analyst will work with faculty and graduate students to ensure research tasks and objectives are achieved. Given the increasing scope and importance of research collaborations, the Analyst will assist in growing and sustaining collaborative activities within and external to IESVic. The Analyst will help serve IESVic and its partners by being a facilitator, working well beyond the scope of a graduate student. The Analyst will bring and share their experience with a variety of computational tools and methods. As an active participant in research, the Analyst will assist in writing academic papers.

 What is required:
• PhD in a field related to energy systems and sustainability.
• Research experience in areas related to sustainable energy, such as: energy conversion, electrical system planning and operation, built environment, transportation systems, hydrogen, electrochemical processes, water-energy-land nexus and geospatial analysis.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to work as an independent researcher with a high level of scientific judgment and initiative.
• Strong organizational skills and time management.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills with a willingness to mentor students.
• Evidence of the desire, willingness, and ability to collaborate broadly.

What is desired:
• Demonstrated experience with working with non-academic partners such as government, industry, and NGOs.
• Experience organizing conferences, workshops, seminars.
• Ability to communicate research activities and impact to a broad audience.

Additional information:
• This is a full time, one year, postdoctoral appointment with the potential for renewal for three additional years. Renewals are based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. Salary for postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.
• Work will be primarily performed at Engineering Office Wing, EOW 106, University of Victoria, BC, Canada.
