Reproduction and Use Requests

You can use images from the website of University of Victoria Legacy Art Galleries (the Legacy) where Fair Dealing applies under the Canadian Copyright Act including for research and private study. For any other use, permission in writing is required from the Legacy or the copyright holder.  

Process

Please note our reproduction request process is currently on hold.

To use or reproduce images from the Legacy, please fill out our Reproduction Request form. Your request will be reviewed and an estimate of cost for the request given. Should both the Legacy and the applicant wish to proceed, the Legacy will work on preparing the files. Once the Legacy receives payment, the file will be released to the applicant.

Terms

  • Please allow 4-8 weeks for us to process your request.
  • Many works in the Legacy’s website and/or collection might be covered by other restrictions including copyright and other proprietary rights held by third parties. It is the responsibility of the applicant to obtain all necessary permissions.
  • You must credit the Legacy with the phrase supplied by our staff
  • If you want to crop the image, retouch, or alter it in any way, you must get permission to do so from the Legacy.
  • If the Legacy doesn't have a digital file of the appropriate quality, the cost of filling the requests (ex. hiring a photographer) will be passed on to the applicant
  • Research fees of $50.00 per hour may apply (first 30 minutes are free).
  • Electronic file delivery is free. Other methods of delivery will incur fees including shipping and printing.
  • The Legacy reserves the right to charge additional fees depending on how the images are used. Generally, these fees apply if you intend to use the image(s) for commercial and/or advertising purposes.
  • Applicable taxes will be charged
  • All requests are at the discretion of the Legacy. The Legacy can deny requests for any reason.
