Appeal Law Journal
Appeal: Review of Current Law and Law Reform is a peer-reviewed journal managed by UVic Law students. It features student-written articles, case comments and book reviews that explore Canadian and comparative law, along with the broader social, political and philosophical issues connected to the law.

Submissions
Want to submit an article to Appeal Volume 31? Find more information on the Appeal Journal website.
The submission deadline for Volume 31 has been extended to October 29, 2025
While all paper topics will be considered for Volume 31 of Appeal, the Editorial Board appreciates submissions which touch on social justice, innovative approaches to legal reform, emerging areas of law, or topical legal issues.
- Send submissions by email to appeal@uvic.ca. Email subject line must include “ASV 31”
 - Save files as Microsoft Word documents only
 - Submissions may be any length, but a 3,000 to 9,000 word limit is suggested.
 - The Editorial Board will consider the content and form of the submission when assessing word limits (for example, book reviews may contain fewer words than essays).
 - Authors must also submit a 300-word abstract outlining their thesis, methodology, and contribution to legal scholarship or reform
 - For citations, adherence to the Canadian Guide to Uniform Legal Citation, 10th Edition (the "McGill Guide") is preferred, but in the spirit of Appeal’s open access policy, submissions using the Canadian Open Access Legal Citation Guide (the “COAL Guide”) will also be considered
 - Papers must have been completed while studying at the undergraduate or graduate law student level and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere
 
Publications
Appeal is an annual publication, published electronically through this website, HeinOnline, CanLII and LexisNexis QuickLaw.
Volume 30 of Appeal was released in May 2025.
Appeal periodically produces podcasts on contemporary issues in Canadian law.
