50 for 50: A Scholarship Campaign for UVic Law’s 50th Anniversary
October 23, 2025
50th Anniversary Fundraising Initiative
As UVic Law celebrates 50 years of excellence, innovation and impact, the Faculty is proud to announce the public launch of 50 for 50: A Scholarship Campaign for UVic Law’s 50th Anniversary.
This special initiative honours five decades of leadership and learning by investing in the next generation of legal professionals. The campaign’s goal is to create or enhance 50 scholarships that will ensure a diverse range of talented and deserving students have access to a world-class legal education, regardless of financial barriers.
The campaign builds on the generosity and vision of UVic Law’s alumni, friends and partners who, over the past half-century, have helped shape a faculty that continues to ground its work in Dean Murray Fraser’s founding principles: (1) justice-focused scholarship, teaching and service; (2) a dynamic, policy-oriented approach to law in social context; and (3) graduating students who are ethical, competent, and committed to serving Canada’s diverse communities.
“One of the privileges of being Dean is being able to connect with fellow UVic Law alumni. In our conversations, one theme comes through again and again: a deep sense of pride in UVic Law and a shared commitment to its future,” said Dean Freya Kodar '95 .
The response has been extraordinary. In its quiet phase, the campaign has secured commitments for 34 scholarships, representing more than $3.16 million toward the future success of UVic Law students.
Through 50 for 50, donors have shaped scholarships that reflect our hopes for the next generation of legal leaders. Awards can support undergraduate or graduate students, address financial need, reward academic achievement, or uplift students from particular backgrounds or fields of study. This adaptable approach strengthens UVic Law’s commitment to diversity and student success across all our programs – JD, JD/JID, LLM and PhD.
Together, we can ensure that UVic Law continues to lead with integrity, curiosity and courage for the next 50 years — and beyond.
