Biography
Seyed Zavarei is an Assistant Professor at the University of Victoria Faculty of Law. His research engages theories of private law, legal pluralism, and legal-historical methods, exploring how legal ideas travel across traditions—and what gets lost, or transformed, in the process. He is also completing his doctoral studies at McGill University, where his dissertation examines theoretical and methodological questions about contracts in the classical Islamic legal tradition.
Before joining UVic, Seyed worked as in-house counsel, in private practice, and within the judicial system, across both civil law and common law jurisdictions.
