RS 311: Gandhi and the Ethics of Nonviolence

This course explores Gandhi's ethics of nonviolence and civil disobedience. When is it right to break the law? What rationale does Gandhi provide? What qualifications? Is violence ever justifiable? The course examines the philosophical and religious roots of Gandhi's thought, as well as Gandhi's influence on later thinkers and activists.
