In 2025, Kael received an Independent Student Research grant to examine puzzles of autonomy and consent related to the renewed feasibility of cephalosomatic anastomosis, or the head transplant. They went on to present this research at the 2026 Pride STEM Conference at Dalhousie University. They wrote their interdisciplinary honours thesis on French phenomenologist, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, and a metaphysics of presence in relation to museological objects. Their current research interests include expanding on the head transplant research to look at puzzles of autonomy and consent more generally when it comes to biodigital convergence, cyborgs, and the increasing implementation of technology and AI in the medical industry. Kael is the recipient of a Canada Graduate Research Scholarship—Master’s (funded by SSHRC).
