How do we come to know mathematics? I aim to answer this question by examining mathematical practice (historical and contemporary) and mathematics as a social community (community of empathy). I am primarily interested in Descartes's and Husserl's views on mathematics, and using methods from logic and cognitive sciences to support my research.
