Holocaust Awareness Post-Survivor Exhibit

Holocaust Awareness Week

As part of Hillel BC’s 2nd Annual Holocaust Awareness Week and to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day on campus, Hillel Victoria in collaboration with the Jewish Students Association, the History Undergraduate Society, the Jewish Federation of Victoria and Vancouver Island, the Kristallnacht Commemoration Planning Committee from the Victoria Holocaust Remembrance and Education Society, UVic Food Services, UVic Multifaith Services and the Departments of History and European Studies are holding a Special Presentation on January 27, 2016 from 4:00-5:30PM in the Farquhar Auditorium Lobby at the University Centre.

Speakers include representatives from the Jewish Students Association, the History Undergraduate Society, Hillel BC, Dr. Kristin Semmens (History Department) and a representative from the Victoria Holocaust Remembrance and Education Society.

In addition to musical performances, there will also be a candle lighting ceremony and the rebuilding of a symbolic broken window involving student leaders, descendants of Holocaust survivors, UVic professors working in Holocaust Education, UVic Campus Security, and UVic Administration, as well as representatives of the Jewish, multifaith and international communities of Victoria.

There will also be a week-long exhibit on display at Mystic Market, a few steps away from the Lobby, featuring personal stories of UVic students who are descendants of Holocaust survivors. Be sure to take a look before or after the presentation.
