Funding opportunities for study abroad

We realize that the main obstacle for going to study abroad might be the lack of financial resources. Here we suggest some of the opportunities that exist for UVic students:

Elias Mandel Award for Study Abroad in the Humanities

Elias Mandel Award for Study Abroad in the Humanities is available for undergraduate students registered in the Faculty of Humanities who are studying abroad through courses, field schools, or programs offered or recognized by the Faculty of Humanities.

Three competitions are held each year. The deadlines for applications are 4:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of March, July, and November.

Humanities Undergraduate Research Travel Award

Award(s) of up to $500 available to assist with airfare and living expenses associated research activities conducted in international libraries, universities, or other related sites. Any undergraduate student registered in the Faculty of Humanities is eligible to apply.

Margaret Beck Student Research Travel Award

Available for student travel to Iceland for research or study purposes. See the Beck Lecture Series - Travel Award page for details. 

UVic Libraries David Flaherty Undergraduate Student Library Scholarship and William Petrie Graduate Student Library Scholarship

$500 essay prize for describing how students have used the Library for research. Visit the UVic Libraries Student Awards page for details. 

Premier’s Scholarship

Study or work abroad program at least 3 months in length. Must have a B+ average. Please for details. 

EU Young Journalist Fellowship

Students submit a news report or opinion piece on a current issue facing the EU or EU-Canada relations.  Winners are invited on a week-long study tour of EU institutions. Visit the Canadian Association of Journalists site for details.
