Faces of UVic Research: Sikata Banerjee
Dr. Sikata Banerjee is a professor in the Department of Women's Studies at the University of Victoria Faculty of Humanities. She studies gender and nationalism, particularly in India. Specifically she traces the manner in which cultural ideas of manhood shape the political representation of nation. In this video, she discusses her theory of muscular nationalism and why India today needs to be known as a muscular nation. She also explains the importance of understanding nationalism in today's society, where so many of the world's political conflicts are based on ideas of nationalism. Faces of UVic Research: Jo-Anne Lee
Dr. Jo-Anne Lee is a professor in the Department of Women's Studies at the University of Victoria Faculty of Humanities. In this video she discusses her work with minority women and girls who are growing up in small urban centres. She also explains a project in which she trains young women and girls in the use of video cameras and cameras, so they can create documentaries and use their own voices to speak to policy makers and researchers.
