Positions Available:Academic Assistants - See list below for anticipated positions. Appointment Dates: Various Sept 2025 – April 2026
Rate of Pay: As per the salary schedule for CUPE 4163 Academic & Scientific Assistants Comp1 – $34.72
Hours: Hours per position are based on course enrollment and will be finalized at the beginning of the term.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Please note that duties may vary due to specific needs of Online instruction. Duties may include some or all of the following:
- holding scheduled office hours online to assist students with problems
- assisting instructor with transition of course content to online formats
- posting course content to BrightSpace
- managing chat forum online
- preparing exams and assignments
- grading course assignments and exams
- keeping accurate records of grades
- online exam invigilation
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Appointment procedures are based on the guidelines of the CUPE 4163 Agreement.
Selection criteria for all positions will include the qualifications and ability of the candidate(s) based on academic merit and related experience, the career and/or pedagogical value that the experience in a particular position will provide the student, the student’s preferences, and other sources of graduate student financial support being received.
All applications will be considered. However, priority will first be given to Faculty of Humanities graduate students registered at The University of Victoria with a BA or a minor in Gender or Women’s Studies, or other demonstrated academic expertise in the field of Gender and Women’s Studies.
All TAs must have a solid background in the related subject (unless specified otherwise). Excellent command of spoken and written English is essential.
