Take action

After a conflict discussion, it's crucial to make sure everyone understands what will happen next. The aim is to agree on how to resume working together in a peaceful manner.

Making an agreement

This may involve:

  • agreements for how to behave in future
  • repair of a wrong and/or making an apology
  • proactive prevention of similar conflicts in future
  • reaching out for additional support

The details of these agreements will vary based on the specific circumstances of each conversation. Use the worksheet to reflect on how best to move forward.

Normalize the awkward next interaction

After a conflict conversation, the next few interactions may feel a bit awkward or overly polite. This is totally normal. Keep practicing the new behaviors and following the agreements until you get used to them.

Next step: Resolve

  • if you are ready to resolve this conflict, move to the Resolve & Repair step
  • if the conflict could benefit from more conversation, move to the Consider step
  • if you need more help with this conflict, ask your leader for support
