About Facilities Management

Facilities Management (FMGT) manages UVic's physical assets. We proactively steward the campus environment, ensuring seamless alignment between physical infrastructure and institutional strategic goals.

Our teams

Facilities Management reports to the Vice President, Finance and Operations. It's led by Executive Director Melissa Donaldson.

Capital Development and Delivery

Capital Development and Delivery is responsible for:

  • planning capital development
  • managing capital projects
  • purchasing and installing furnishings, fittings and finishes
  • maintaining maps, signage and wayfinding strategies
  • creating design and construction standards

Capital projects include new buildings, additions, major renovations, and physical infrastructure. We work extensively with outside contractors and stakeholders within UVic and government agencies.

Finance and Administration

Finance and Administration is responsible for all accounting, budgeting, financial planning, and administrative systems in Facilities Management. This includes:

  • internal payroll and HR (FMGT staff only)
  • customer billing
  • utility and vendor billing and payments and service agreements
  • journal voucher and accounts payable processing
  • purchasing
  • our customer service desk
  • FMIS

Maintenance and Operations

Maintenance and Operations is responsible for:

  • custodial services, maintenance and repairs
  • care and landscaping of grounds and natural spaces
  • on-campus mail and delivery services
  • utilities (energy, heating and ventilation systems, and water)

Our strategic priorities are based on UVic's Strategic Plan other high-level plans. We:

  • Support UVic’s position as a national leader in climate action and environmental stewardship.
  • Develop and execute long-term capital investments that ensure the integrity, safety and modern functionality of UVic's physical environment.
  • Foster strategic process improvement, technology adoption and a high-performance culture to deliver efficient, reliable and responsive services.
  • Make improvements to UVic's physical environment to make it accessible and inclusive.
