ABSTRACT

Abstract:

In the following talk, a new macroscopic traffic flow model is presented which accurately characterizes traffic behavior. The traffic density and velocity distributions are based on the forward conditions. Analogies for the traffic flow model are developed from ideal gas expression. Just like the gas constant, a dynamics constant is developed which characterizes the distribution of traffic flow. The dynamics constant is based on the interaction of vehicles, alignment time, velocity and the response of drivers to the traffic flow. The proposed model behavior is demonstrated with a discontinuous density distribution caused by a bottleneck. The model is compared with the state of art model. Traffic flow with the proposed model transforms into clusters which spans over a large distance of road. The density and velocity distributions stay with in the limits of maximum and minimum with the devised model.
