ABSTRACT

Summary:

In this seminar, I will talk about the active suspension system from a power harvesting perspective. I will introduce a 2-DOF vehicle model for calculations of vehicle dynamics as well as a road profile model based on PSD classifications outlined by ISO 8608. Then the power harvesting potential of the conventional viscous fluid dampers for a range of road profile roughnesses and vehicle speeds will be discussed. I will explain the problem of additional power harvesting from the regenerative electric damper operating in the "dead-zone" and introduce the PWM DC-DC converter as a solution and analyze its efficiency by circuit level simulations in PSpice.
