Transducers and Instrumentation for Biomechanics: Traps, pitfalls and the quest for meaningful data

Presenter: Adrian Liggins, PhD (Orthopaedic Mechanics), P.Eng. - Director, Motion Analysis Lab, Shriners Hospital for Children, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Supervisor:

Date: Fri, January 11, 2002
Time: 14:30:00 - 16:00:00
Place: Human and Social Development Building (HSD) A260

ABSTRACT

This presentation will examine the creative process from the identification of a transducer/instrumentation need to the development of a practical solution. The focus will be on two aspects of quantitative biomechanical measurement: interface pressure measurement and in-vivo component-position measurement for artificial replacement joints.

Dr. Liggins has an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Surrey, UK and a PhD in Orthopaedic Mechanics from the University of Salford, UK. He is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the former Director, Gait Analysis Laboratory, Shriners Hospital for Children, Shreveport, Louisiana. He has taught the theory and practice of Clinical Gait Analysis to students in Biomedical Engineering, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Nursing.

This lecture is sponsored by PTD Technologies, Inc. - Innovators in Biomedical Technologies.
