Program FAQ
We usually admit 14-20 students each year. Not all students who meet the minimum requirements will be admitted.
Admissions & entry requirements
You do not need to find a supervisor before applying. Please review our faculty listing and consider who to work with on your technical project.
You can apply before finishing your degree. You must complete the degree before the entry point you’re applying for. You must submit unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary schools, including the in-progress degree.
If you get a provisional offer of admission, you must submit all official documents. Only then will you be fully admitted and allowed to register for courses.
Your undergraduate degree must be in engineering or applied science. You may be considered if you have a different degree or diploma, plus relevant work experience.
Applicants with a degree other than engineering or applied science should be able to demonstrate knowledge in math, statistics and calculus.
We only evaluate completed applications. Please check the graduate admissions site for the admission requirements.
Submitting an application
The MEng in Biomedical Systems is offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
We require 2 assessment reports from professional or academic contacts. We strongly recommend that your referees attach a reference letter to their assessment report. Reference letters must be on official letterhead and signed by the referee.
Please keep your statement of intent to 1 page (normally 200-250 words double-spaced in size 12 font).
Graduate Admissions and Records will review your application. If it meets the Faculty of Graduate Studies’ minimum requirements, your application will be sent to us for review and a decision.
After admission
The MEng in Biomedical Systems program is self-funded. Students must secure their own funding before beginning their studies.
The graduate admissions site has information on funding and employment for graduate students. You can also work as a teaching assistant in other departments.
Please review our faculty listing and consider who to work with on your technical project. You may initiate a discussion with a potential supervisor or ask the graduate program director to help identify one.
You must have a provisional, conditional or full offer of admission to change your start date. Please contact the graduate secretary with your request for an entry point change. Entry point changes are only granted once per student. If you need to change a second time, you will have to pay the application fee again.
