Leigh Kowalchuk (computer science)
Leigh Kowalchuk (she/her) makes a point to check in with Career Services every semester—it’s a part of the computer science student’s career development process.
After first dropping by for an impromptu appointment, she booked a longer meeting with her career educator to take a detailed look at her résumé and cover letter.
Connecting with Career Services
“I truly believe I wouldn’t have been as successful as I was in my job search without Karae’s advice,” says Leigh. “I went from getting no interviews to nothing but interviews."
"Not only that, but she strengthened my confidence in my interview skills and I was able to land my first co-op at a dream company of mine. After seeing Karae, I found that I already had great skills and experience; I just needed her professional touch to make it come across better to hiring teams.”
The importance of checking in
Leigh encourages other students to make the most of the UVic community and the support it can provide.
“In my career journey thus far, I have learned that having a strong support team is everything—no one can do everything themselves. Ask for help. The Career Services team is there to help you succeed in your career, and who wouldn’t want that? Whether it’s a full résumé makeover or a small typo fix, they can support you.”
