Configure Exchange: Outlook 2011 for Mac

Before your configure Outlook, please ensure that you have a Microsoft Exchange account and that you are able to check your email through Outlook Web Access

IMPORTANT NOTE: ensure Outlook 2011 is fully updated.  You may not be able to configure an Exchange account if Outlook 2011 is not up to date.

  1. In the Tools menu, click Accounts.
  2. In the lower-left corner of the Accounts dialogue box, click the plus sign (+) and choose Exchange from the drop-down list.



  3. In the dialogue box, enter the following information:
    • E-mail address: your UVic email address (i.e. NetLinkID@uvic.ca)
    • Method: User name and Password
    • User name: UVIC\NetLinkID (where NetLinkID is your personal NetLink ID)
    • Password: your NetLink ID password
    Leave the Configure automatically box checked, and click Add Account when finished.



  4. Your account settings are now displayed in the Accounts dialogue box. Click on the Advanced button in the lower-right corner.



  5. Under the Server tab, enter the following information:
    • Microsoft Exchange
      • Server: mail.uvic.ca
      • Check Use SSL to connect
    • Directory service
      • Server: mail.uvic.ca
      • Check Use SSL to connect
      • Search base: dc=uvic,dc=ca
    Click OK when finished.



  6. You will see Initial sync pending or Downloading in the bottom status bar as your items are downloaded for the first time. Do not close Outlook during this initial sync. Once you see the All folders are up to date message, it is safe to close Outlook.
