Dr. Heather Castleden was recipient of the Eric Crighton Mentorship Award

SPA Professor Dr. Heather Castleden was recipient of the Eric Crighton Mentorship Award at the 2026 Canadian Association of Geographers / Association Canadienne des Géographes Conference in June.
Dr. Castleden is a SPA Professor and President’s Impact Chair in Transformative Governance for Planetary Health at the University of Victoria. Heather is also the Director of the HEC (Health-Environment-Communities) Lab.
The Eric Crighton award recognizes excellence in mentorship and its no surprise that Heather was recognized. Heather’s commitment to supporting students, researchers and other colleagues through their studies and careers is truly exceptional. Through the HECLab and other work, Heather provides extensive training, academic and personal support to School of Public Administration students (in both MPA and MACD programs) and others and helps build their own scholarship in an innovative model that works across disciplines.
