How to include fossil fuel communities in Canada’s clean energy transition

On the UN Clean Energy Day 🌎⚡, I'm excited to share our new article on how to bring fossil fuel–reliant communities into Canada’s energy transition, based on insights from 3 recent studies with Megan Egler (affective climate polarization), Rowan Hargreaves (municipal officials perspectives), and Sam Lloyd (climate delays), under a project supported by Accelerating Community Energy Transformation.

🔍 Key message: Fossil fuel communities aren’t obstacles. They’re central to whether the transition succeeds, and many are already experimenting with diversification.

💡 Takeaway: We need co-created place-based policy, tailored support for workers and towns, and better tools to counter misinformation about climate policy impacts.
