Vasco joined the Department of Economics at UVic in 2021 as Professor and Department Chair. Vasco graduated in Economics from ISEG, Lisbon School of Economics & Management, University of Lisbon in 1995, where he was awarded the ICEP prize. He received a masters degree in Applied Maths (Econometrics) in 1998 from the same institution. In 2002, Vasco completed a PhD in Economics at Birkbeck College, University of London. 

Vasco taught at the University of Minho, Portugal, before joining the University of Surrey, UK, in 2004, where he served as Head of School, Director of Learning and Teaching, and Director of Postgraduate Studies.

Vasco's research interests are quite broad, ranging from Econometrics and Applied Macroeconomics to Empirical Finance. Vasco co-founded the Centre for International Macroeconomic Studies (CIMS) and he is a Visiting Researcher at the Bank of Portugal.
