Paola Beneras P.  joined the Department of Economics in July of 2022.

Paola is an applied economist in the areas of health, labour, and development economics with a focus on poverty, inequality, gender, and the intergenerational transmission of outcomes. Most of her research has centred on the well-being of children and women in Ecuador and Canada. Paola is interested in how access to resources, behavioral norms and social policy may impact vulnerable or marginalized populations. Her overarching goal is to better understand how individuals can experience fulfilling and gratifying lives free of systemic and oppressive barriers. Paola is also interested in pedagogical research on education.
