Active threat information session
An active threat involves an individual with a weapon posing immediate danger. These situations are unpredictable and fast-moving, but knowing how to respond can save lives.
This session covers key actions—Get Out, Hide, or Fight—and what to do when police arrive. For a detailed guide and video, visit the Active Threat page.

Building and Floor Emergency Coordinators training sessions
Each regularly occupied building on campus has a Building Emergency Team made up of UVic employees. Learn more about these teams.
You must be a Building Emergency Coordinator (BEC) or Floor Emergency Coordinator (FEC) to register for these training sessions.

Emergency preparedness workshops
Emergencies can happen at any time. Do you know what to do in an earthquake, tsunami, or other disruptive event?
Join this session to learn practical steps to prepare for emergencies.

Fire drills
Fire drills are held in person throughout the year. When your building drill happens expect a 15-minute disruption to your work, teaching or study.
When fire bells sound, evacuate the building immediately—and encourage others to do the same. Find evacuation maps and assembly points under the Evacuations tab.
Fire extinguisher training
Learn how to safely use a fire extinguisher and respond to a small fire during this hands-on training. Live fire is not used in these training sessions.
