Dr. Aditya Mojumdar is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the School of Molecular Life Sciences. Academic credentials include an MSc from Uppsala University and a PhD from the University of Trieste.

Research Interests

 Dr. Mojumdar is interested in the molecular systems that protect the genetic information stored within cells. DNA is continually exposed to damage, and cells rely on coordinated networks of proteins to detect and repair that damage. His work examines how these protective mechanisms maintain genome stability under normal conditions. He is also interested in how the same systems become less effective or improperly regulated during aging and in cancer cells. Yeast genetics provides a powerful way to investigate these processes because many proteins responsible for protecting DNA are conserved from yeast to humans. By combining genetics, molecular biology, and protein biochemistry, his research contributes to a clearer understanding of why genome-maintenance mechanisms sometimes fail.
