Dr. Catherine Bachewich is a Teaching Professor in the School of Molecular Life Sciences. Academic credentials include a BSc from the University of British Columbia and a PhD from York University.

Research Interests

 Dr. Bachewich studies how fungi grow, divide, and change shape. Her research examines the cellular and molecular processes that control fungal development and allow fungi to adapt to different environments. A major focus is Candida albicans, a common human fungal pathogen that can change its physical form during infection. She also uses Aspergillus nidulans as a model for understanding fundamental aspects of fungal cell biology. By combining microscopy, genetics, molecular biology, and cell biology, her work is impactful for  identifying biological processes that can be targeted to prevent or treat fungal infections.
