Introducing the School of Molecular Life Sciences

Beginning September 1, 2026, the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology will become the School of Molecular Life Sciences. This evolution reflects the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of modern scientific research and recognizes the broad range of research areas now represented within the School. The transition was informed by consultation with peer institutions and industry partners, highlighting the growing demand for collaborative, cross-disciplinary approaches in the life sciences. 

At the same time, the school’s undergraduate programs have been redesigned to provide students with a flexible, rigorous, and highly regarded educational experience. The new Molecular Life Sciences major or Honours will prepare graduates to pursue diverse career pathways, including research positions, graduate and professional studies, and opportunities within the biotechnology sector.
