Study 2: Intersectoral collaboration for health inequities reduction

The purpose of this study is to map the professional relationships between people working in the areas of mental health and substance use in public health. This will show where people and organizations are working together to address health equity in the target areas. The main research method for this study is social network analysis.

Research questions:

  • Who do public health practitioners engage with inside of the health authority on health equity issues related to mental health promotion and prevention of mental health and substance use problems?coloured circles connected by lines in network pattern
  • Who do those working in public health engage with outside of the health authority on health equity issues related to mental health promotion and prevention of mental health and substance use problems?
  • Who are the main actors and organizations in social networks for promotion of health equity?
  • What opportunities exist to strengthen intersectoral engagement in the promotion of health equity in mental health and substance use programs?
  • How does this change over time?

We’re looking for people who work for one of British Columbia’s health authorities (including PHSA agencies, services and programs) or British Columbia’s Ministry of Health whose public health work relates to alcohol, tobacco, illicit drugs and/or misuse of prescription drugs to tell us about their collaborations in a new survey.
