Bursaries requiring separate application

Entry bursaries are available to all eligible undergraduate full-time continuing students applying to continue to BSN degree completion at The University of Victoria from a Collaboratation for Academic Education in Nursing (CAEN) Program partner institute. This bursary may be applied for only once (upon admission to UVic). Please see the School of Nursing website for applications and deadlines.

Dorothy Kergin Bursaries are available to all eligible undergraduate full-time students currently enrolled in the School of Nursing at the University of Victoria. Students may apply for a Dorothy Kergin Bursary for each term of full-time study in the program. Please see the School of Nursing website for applications and deadlines.

General bursary application

Students may be considered for the following bursaries by completing the general bursary application. Only one application is necessary to be considered for all bursaries.

Aboriginal Health Career Bursary

One or more bursaries will be awarded to students of Aboriginal heritage (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) enrolled in the following health degree programs: BSN, Masters of Nursing Nurse Practitioner (NP) or PhD n Nursing. Applicants must be registered in full-time studies at UVic. The delivery of the program/course may be through either distance education or on-campus. First preference will be given to Aboriginal students from Vancouver Island. Second preference will be given to Aboriginal students from within BC. Third preference will be given to Aboriginal students from within Canada.

British Columbia Lung Association - Christmas Seal Society Bursary

Value: $1000 | Number: One

A bursary of $1000 will be awarded annually by the British Columbia Lung Association-Christmas Seal Society to a needy student entering the final year in the Nursing program.

Christine Elworthy Bursary in the School of Nursing*

Value: $500 | Number: 1

One or more bursaries are awarded to 3rd or 4th year undergraduate students in the School of Nursing.  Preference will be given to a student who is a single parent.

Coby van Der Zeijst Memorial Bursary

Value: $1,000 | Number: 1

A bursary of $1000 is awarded to a 3rd or 4th year student in the School of Nursing.

Dorothy H. Neal Memorial Bursary*

One or more bursaries are awarded to students entering fourth year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

Dorothy Lucile Adams Bursary*

A bursary is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student in the School of Nursing. It is the wish of the School of Nursing that the first year of the award be given to an undergraduate student and the following year a graduate student alternating every year after that.

Eileen Lillian Cowling Memorial Bursary*

A bursary is awarded to a student in the School of Nursing who is pursuing a career in community nursing.

Irene Harris Memorial Bursary*

One or more bursaries are awarded to women students in the School of Nursing. This award is established in memory of Miss Harris who was a teacher of nursing in China for many years.

Island Community Home Support Services Bursary*

One or more bursaries are awarded to students registered in the BSN program with the School of Nursing, with preference given to students who are currently working in geriatrics and intend to pursue a career in geriatrics.

Katherine Church Zuill Endowed Fund*

Bursaries are awarded to undergraduate students who are single mothers entering the School of Nursing. To receive bursary renewals, recipients must submit a bursary application and continue to demonstrate financial need.

Kathleen Nora Comerford Memorial Bursary*

A bursary is awarded to an undergraduate student who is continuing studies in the Nursing Program. Preference will be given to a student showing an interest in Public Health Nursing.

Loreen and Donald Dunklee Bursary *

Margaret E. Ableson Bursary*

One or more bursaries are awarded to students entering or continuing in either the Bachelor of Nursing program, or the Bachelor of Education program with a teaching concentration in Science and Environment Education. Normally, the bursary is awarded alternately between the two programs beginning with the Bachelor of Nursing program.

Muriel Ford Memorial Bursary*

A bursary is awarded to a student in the School of Nursing who is supporting dependent children and who is entering the final year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Preference will be given to a student interested in community nursing or health promotion.

Steve Peterson Memorial Bursary in Nursing*

A bursary will be awarded annually to a needy student in the School of Nursing, who has a strong academic record.

Applications from students are not required for scholarships listed in this section.

Pacific Blue Cross Scholarship

Two scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded to academically outstanding students in the School of Nursing who have transferred from a College in British Columbia.

Students registered in at least 4.50 academic units are eligible for this scholarship.

Students must apply to be considered for the entrance scholarships below, which are based on marks and other criteria such as academic achievement and volunteer and community work. All UVic entrance scholarships require a minimum 85% admission average, unless otherwise specified in the terms of reference of the scholarship. Recipients will be selected upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

Edna Mary Wootten Scholarship*

Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing. Robert and Audrey Harry Indigenous Scholarship in Nursing*

One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding Indigenous undergraduate students in the School of Nursing.

Royal Jubilee Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association Student Award*

One or more awards are given to undergraduate students continuing in the BSN program, distance or on campus, who are descendants of an alumna of the Royal Jubilee Hospital School of Nursing. Applicants must state their relationship to the alumna and the year the alumna graduated. Undergraduate students can apply via the online in-course application via MyPage under Student Awards and Financial Aid. Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

Students registered in at least 4.50 academic units are eligible for this scholarship.

Sharron Higgins Scholarship in the School of Nursing*

A scholarship is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student who is entering their 3rd year in the School of Nursing and intends to complete 4th year in the following year, and also who is a parent. Preference will be given to a student who is planning to practice in the field of Public Health Nursing. Nomination will be made by the School of Nursing. 

Students registered in at least 4.50 academic units are eligible for this scholarship.

Applications from students are not required for scholarships listed in this section.

Certificate of Outstanding Academic Distinction in Human and Social Development*

A certificate of distinction and a prize of at least $1000 is awarded to the student with the highest graduating grade point average in the Faculty of Human and Social Development registered for the BA, BCYC, BSc, BSN or BSW degree.

Elsa Groundwater Scholarship

Two scholarships of $2,000 each are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in the School of Nursing who are specializing in the operating room. 

Students registered in at least 4.50 academic units are eligible for this scholarship.

Elsa Stephens Scholarship in Nursing*

A scholarship is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student in the School of Nursing. Preference will be given to a student who is contributing to the community.

Esther S. Gardom Scholarship*

A scholarship is awarded by the Canadian Federation of University Women Victoria to an outstanding woman student proceeding to year 4 of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. Approval of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

Eva Hannah Parlee Scholarship*

Glenn and Pauline Greene Scholarship in Nursing

One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in the School of Nursing who have a demonstrated interest in maternal health. Julia Alice Saddington Memorial Scholarship*

A scholarship is awarded to a student entering the final year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program who demonstrates an interest in and an aptitude for community health nursing and who intends to pursue a career in community health nursing. Approval will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

One or more scholarships are awarded to students entering the final year of Nursing at the University of Victoria, who have demonstrated both academic achievement and an interest in Gerontological Nursing. 

Students registered in at least 4.50 academic units are eligible for this scholarship.

Marion Ricker Memorial Scholarship Nursing*

Two scholarships of $550 each are awarded to students who have completed the first year of the program with good grades and who have demonstrated potential to provide leadership within a professional role. Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

Mrs. Annie Greskiw Scholarship in Nursing*

Two scholarships are made annually to outstanding students proceeding to year 3 or 4 of the Nursing program. Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

Purves Sister Memorial Scholarship*

One or more scholarships are awarded to students in the School of Nursing with an interest in specializing in children's diseases and the treatment of children's diseases. Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

Robert S. Evans Memorial Scholarship*

Scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding students who intend to continue their studies at the University of Victoria as follows:

  1. One scholarship to a student in each of the programs: Child and Youth Care, Nursing and Social Work, on the recommendation of the respective Directors;

  2. One scholarship to a student who has completed the qualifying 300-level courses for an Honours or Major program in Astronomy;

  3. Two scholarships for award within the student body at large. If no suitable candidates can be found in categories (1) or (2), additional awards can be made in category (3).

Kathleen Mary Oliver Nursing Scholarship

One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in the School of Nursing.  Applicants must submit a statement (maximum 500 words) demonstrating their interest in public health to the School of Nursing by April 30. Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing.
