Jeffrey Mallett Leadership Award*

An award is given to a student in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business who can demonstrate involvement in community or campus organizations. Preference will be given to a student on a Vikes varsity team. Submit resumé and cover letter highlighting your involvement in community or campus organizations to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business by November 15.

Kyle McMillan Award*

An award is given to a student in year 3 of the BCom program in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. Selection of the recipient will be based on fall class evaluations and any or all of the following criteria: athletics, leadership, academic, public speaking. Nominations will be accepted from students and faculty by the BCom Associate Director on or before December 15th of each year.

Students may be considered for the following bursaries by completing the general bursary application. Only one application is necessary to be considered for all bursaries.

CIBC Bursary in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business

Bursaries of up to $2,500 are awarded to students in the Bachelor of Commerce Program in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. Preference will be given to students in the first or third year of the program.

Henry and Marian Thiel International Bursary*

A bursary will be awarded to a Canadian academically outstanding undergraduate student entering 4th year in the Bachelor or Commerce program who has completed the Bachelor of Commerce core and who is specializing in International Business.

John H. Rennie Bursary in Business

One or more bursaries are awarded to students entering or continuing in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

Students must apply to be considered for the entrance scholarships below, which are based on marks and other criteria such as academic achievement and volunteer and community work. All UVic entrance scholarships require a minimum 85% admission average, unless otherwise specified in the terms of reference of the scholarship. Recipients will be selected upon the recommendations of the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

Black Press Business Scholarships

Value: $5,000 | Number: Up to 37

Up to thirty-seven scholarships of $5,000 each are awarded to outstanding undergraduate students entering or continuing in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business who have graduated from a BC high school located in one of the regions on this table. To be considered, students must submit an application to the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) program in addition to planning for a future career in business. Payment of this scholarship will be made in two installments, the first in September and the second in January. The second installment will be dependent upon the recipient maintaining a full time registration in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

  • Preference will be given to students entering the BCom program directly from Grade 12.
  • Application is by invitation. Short-listed applicants will be invited to submit additional documents in early June. Final decisions are confirmed in late August based on official final grades.

CIBC Scholarship in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business

Value: $2,500 | Number: 10

Ten scholarships of $2,500 are awarded to academically outstanding entering and continuing students beginning their second year in the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. Preference is given to students with demonstrated financial need. This scholarship is renewable for recipients' third year of the program. To receive an automatic renewal, recipients must have completed a total of 12 or more units in any two terms of study between May and April and maintained a grade point average of 7.0 or higher on best 12 units. Students taking a co-op term and 6 units between May and April are eligible for renewal if a grade point average of 7.0 is maintained. A student whose grade point average falls between 6.5 and 7.0 may file a written appeal with the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business to seek special consideration for renewal of the scholarship.

Dr. J. Donald Rowlatt Entrance Scholarship

A scholarship is awarded to a BC secondary school student entering first year at the University of Victoria and who has been granted admission to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. Preference will be given to an aboriginal student.

Peninsula Co-op Pat Fafard Entrance Award

Value: $1,000 | Number: 1

A scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student pursuing a degree at the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business who has contributed to their community and/or school in an outstanding way through volunteer or extra-curricular activities. The recipient must be a Peninsula Co-op member or the immediate family of a member. Immediate family of the student includes parents, step-parents, guardians, siblings, grandparents, uncles and aunts. Students and immediate family must have had active membership prior to September 1st of the previous year and must currently be in good standing with Peninsula Co-op. The recipient must be enrolled full-time at UVic and must attend UVic within the same year as their secondary school graduation.

Applications from students are not required for scholarships listed in this section.

50th Anniversary Peter B. Gustavson School of Business Entrance Scholarship

A scholarship of $1,000 is awarded annually to an academically outstanding student entering the University of Victoria from a Canadian secondary school who is pursuing an undergraduate degree at the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

Peter B. Gustavson School of Business Entrance Tuition Scholarship

Scholarships are awarded to students entering the Bachelor of Commerce Core Program. Scholarships are awarded based on the 30-unit GPA used by the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

Applications are required for in-course scholarships listed in this section. These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals, and prizes. Scholarships marked with an asterisk (*) are administered by the University of Victoria Foundation.

  • Unless stated otherwise, the application must be made through completion of the in-course scholarship application on My Page.
  • The deadline, unless stated otherwise, is May 31.
  • Some of the following awards may require application through the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business; please review the eligibility criteria and application instructions below for further information.

Albert Hung Chao Hong Scholarship in International Business and Entrepreneurship*

Scholarships of at least $3,000 each, payable over two years, are awarded to academically excellent undergraduate students. One or more scholarships will be awarded to students entering the International Business specialization and one or more scholarships will be awarded to students entering the Entrepreneurship specialization in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. To receive scholarship renewals, recipients must maintain a grade point average of 7.0 or better. A student whose grade point average falls between 6.5 and 7.0 may file a written appeal with the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business to seek special consideration for renewal of the scholarship. No renewal is considered if a student's grade point average falls below 6.5. This award may be given to a graduating student.

Bill Buckwold/Jennifer Richardson Award*

An award is given to a BCom or MBA graduating student who has demonstrated a substantial improvement and who has overcome a significant challenge to achieve their educational goal.

Applications may be obtained from the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business and must be submitted to the Dean’s Office by April 30th.

If an undergraduate student, selection will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards and if a graduate student, selection will be made by the Graduate Awards Committee both upon the recommendation of the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

Black Press Business Scholarships

Canadian National Scholarship*

One or more scholarships are awarded to students enrolled in either the International Business program or the Entrepreneurship and Small Business program. Preference is given to students from the Kitimat-Stikine, Stikine, Bulkely-Nechako areas, the Cariboo, the Okanagan-Similkameen, Central Okanagan and North Okanagan regions. Selection is made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

Chris Markoff Memorial Award

Value: $500 | Number: 1

An award of $500 is given to a 4th year student in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. This student should demonstrate, through a resume, a keen appreciation for the outdoors and a record of outdoor pursuits. Preference will be given to a Canadian student who is involved in the Commerce Cultural Liaison Program (CCLP) and who has taken the time and effort to mentor foreign students at the University.

Resume to be submitted to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business by April 30.

CIBC Scholarship in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business

Evelyn Adu-Febiri International Business Scholarship

One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding Bachelor of Commerce students entering third or fourth year who are participating in an exchange program with UVic partner schools. Preference will be given to students in descending order of priority:

a)       Women students self-identifying as being of Black African ancestry or heritage

b)      Men students self-identifying as being of Black African ancestry or heritage

If no students meeting the criteria can be found (students are not participating in an international exchange), the scholarships will go to any year Bachelor of Commerce students self-identifying as being of Black African ancestry or heritage. 

Harold G. Craven Scholarship*

One or more scholarships of not less than $1,000 are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate 4th year students in the Department of Economics or the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business who intend to pursue a career as a Chartered Accountant.

Henry and Marian Thiel International Business Award*

An award will be given to a Canadian 4th year academically outstanding undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Commerce program who has completed the Bachelor of Commerce core and who is specializing in International Business.

Application: Submit an application and a 250 word essay stating why you are interested in pursuing an International Business degree, your financial need, future goals, career ambitions and personal attributes that will be helpful in achieving success in your chosen career path.

Lee Hayes Scholarship*

Value: Varies | Number: 1

A scholarship is awarded to a student in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. Applicants must submit a 1000 word letter detailing their commitment to their educational and career goals. The essay must be submitted to the School of Business by April 30.

Note:  The donors have requested that the student receiving this award is not to have grades of A- or above. Students are also to visibly demonstrate that they are doing everything possible through rigorous studying to reach his or her goals and must have good work habits and organizational skills.

Malcom Manson Memorial Award*

An award is given to an undergraduate student in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business who is attending a university in China on exchange and/or completing an internship in China. Students must submit a cover letter with a 500 word essay expressing their passion and interest in China and outlining how they anticipate the China experience will benefit them.

Applications must be submitted to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business, Business Student Services Office by April 30.

Mark Krasnick Leadership Award*

One or more awards are given to third or fourth year First Nations students in the Faculty of Human & Social Development, the Faculty of Law or the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business, who demonstrates leadership in either the First Nations community or within the Faculty. Preference will be given to a British Columbia resident.

Murray and Lynda Farmer Scholarship*

One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding 3rd or 4th year students in the Bachelor of Commerce program who demonstrate dedication to community organizations and have a strong interest in business ethics and social responsibility. Students must have completed or be enrolled in one or more courses related to the study of ethics or social responsibility.

Applications together with a 500 word essay on business ethics, personal goals and community involvement must be submitted to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business by April 30.

Oliver Prentice Memorial - Saanich Rotary Scholarship*

A scholarship is awarded to a student of outstanding merit and promise and qualities of character indicating worthiness to hold the scholarship, who is planning a business career and is continuing studies at a recognized university or is articled to a chartered accountant, or C.G.A.

Rose Won Lau Business Scholarship*

A scholarship is awarded to a Bachelor of Commerce student participating in an academic exchange program and/or co-op work placement in China for the upcoming summer or winter session. Selection of the student is based on the submission of a resume and an essay demonstrating the student's involvement in sports, extra-curricular activities or community contributions and stating how the scholarship will be of assistance in completing the co-op term or exchange, and on academic merit. Preference will be given to a woman student of Chinese ancestry.

A cover letter can be used as the application form and must be returned with a resumé and an essay to the Gustavson School of Business, Business Student Services Office (BEC 283) by April 30th..

Sybil Verch Woman in Business Award

An award of $2,500 is awarded to an outstanding woman student in the Bachelor of Commerce program at the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business who has completed the required core courses and will be entering fourth year. First preference will be given to a student who has demonstrated an interest in entering a career in finance. Second preference will be given to a student with demonstrated financial need. The recipient will be nominated by the Gustavson School of Business.

Thomas (Bill) Orr Scholarship in Business*

Up to two grants will be awarded annually to either one undergraduate student to spend one or two semesters at the University of Victoria in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business or one student to complete the MBA program at the University of Victoria. Peter B. Gustavson School of Business Medal for Academic Excellence

The Medal for Academic Excellence is awarded to a student with the highest graduating grade point average of the combined two convocation classes in the B.Com program of the calendar year.

Peter B. Gustavson School of Business Tuition Scholarship

A number of scholarships are awarded to students continuing in the Bachelor of Commerce program. Scholarships are based on the GPA in the required 300-level commerce courses. A student must have completed all 300-level core commerce courses to be eligible for this award.
