General bursaries are not specific to any department. To be eligible for a general bursary, students must be receiving maximum government student loans and still have unmet financial need. Only one application is necessary to be considered for all bursaries.

Applicants must be registered in full-time studies at UVic. The delivery of the program/course may be through either distance education or on-campus. The award will be made to a student, on the basis of academic achievement and financial need, who has completed pre-medical studies at the University of Victoria and is proceeding to medical school the following September.

Graduate Students' Society Bursary

The gift of the Graduate Students Society, are to be made annually to three full-time graduate students in Humanities and/or Social Sciences (as described by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council).  The Bursaries will be based firstly on the financial need of those eligible and secondly on their academic standing.

If there are no single parent students from Holy Cross Parish, then the bursaries may be awarded to any students who are members of Holy Cross Parish. If there are no students who meet the previous criteria, then the bursaries may be awarded to any single parent student.

The Joyce Family Foundation Bursary for Indigenous Students*

One or more bursaries are awarded to undergraduate students at the University of Victoria. Preference will be given to Indigenous students who have graduated from high school within the last five years, and have not qualified for funding from their First Nation Band or an Indigenous organization.  Applicants must be Canadian citizens or have permanent resident status.

Jubilee Year Graduating Class Bursary Fund*

A bursary will be awarded annually to a student enrolling in the graduating year and carrying a full course load. Students with an academic standing of second class or better will be considered if they demonstrate genuine need. The award is made available through the generous donations of graduating classes at the University. The 1978 Graduating Class made a significant contribution to commemorate 75 years of higher education in Victoria.

One or more awards will be made to mature students in any discipline at any level of study.  The awards are made available through annual donations by alumni of the University of Victoria.

UVic Residence Bursary

One or more bursaries of up to $1,000 are available to students who are residing in a University of Victoria residence, excluding Family Housing, and have an eight-month contract (September to April).  The bursaries are awarded on the basis of financial need and are intended to assist students in paying their residence accommodation fees.

Victoria Canada-China Friendship Association Bursary*

A number of awards, which may vary annually, are available to students from the People’s Republic of China. The students may be already attending graduate school at the University of Victoria or have been offered admission. The bursaries are for students attending on special authorization. These awards are intended to defray costs of special language courses required by students. They may also be used for other necessary courses or materials recommended for the students’ programs by their supervisory committee.

Victoria Chinatown Lioness Club Graduate Bursary*

Victoria Real Estate Board Bursary

$1,000 awarded annually as a scholarship and $1,000 awarded annually as a bursary to students registered at the University of Victoria who are dependants of members of the Victoria Real Estate Board. Students registered at the University of Victoria who find that they must transfer to another university in order to complete their chosen program are eligible to apply for these awards.

A bursary will be awarded annually in memory of Mr. and Mrs. E. Weber, to the most deserving student in the third year.  Academic standing, citizenship and need are all to be taken into consideration.

World University Service of Canada (WUSC) Student Refugee Program Bursary
