Tia's Advice: The Final Article

UVic Global Community Newsletter: April 22, 2019

Tia's Advice is a section of the UVic Global Community Newsletter that includes valuable information and important dates for undergraduate and graduate international students in the following categories: degree-seeking, incoming exchange, and incoming study abroad.

Looking Back

Tia's Advice has been a feature article in the UVic Global Community Newsletter ever since the first issue was published back in 2014.

In my articles I speak directly to you, the international students at UVic, and I try to provide useful tips and tools for navigating your life in Canada as a temporary resident.

Topics I've covered include immigration documents, academic enrolment status, work authorization, income tax, health insurance, and fraud prevention.

Writing these articles has been an interesting challenge and a rewarding experience. One of the joys of my work is when I meet an international student and they say "Oh, you're Tia from Tia's Advice! Your articles are really helpful."

Signing Off

When the UVic Global Community Newsletter was created, the International Student Advising team was much smaller than it is now. I was the only person available to write these articles.

Over the past five years, our team has grown, and we've been strengthening our services and supports for international students. Now, we are in the fortunate position of having multiple people who are keen to share with your their tips, tools, thoughts, and guidance.

This is the final Tia's Advice article, but it is not an ending. It is actually a new beginning for regular articles written by the International Student Advising team.

I look forward to seeing where we go from here....
