Title: The Importance of Mudane Beliefs

Abstract:

We spend most of our cognitive lives thinking about ordinary, useful topics:  where our keys are, where to get good coffee, what the weather is like.  Beliefs about these topics are "mundane beliefs."  Reflecting on what is important about mundane beliefs gives us insight into whether epistemic norms matter.  This reflection shows us that it systematically does not matter whether our mundane beliefs are coherent, fit our evidence, or are true, and that we should re-think the epistemic norms.
