Faculty Opportunities

Faculty participate with colleagues, students, and the public in socially engaging ways and strive to integrate teaching, scholarship, and research at all program levels. The Faculty of HSD provides support for research development through the HSD Research Support Centre as well connections with the Learning and Teaching Support and Innovation office to support its faculty with professional development and teaching enhancement.

The UVic School of Nursing invites expressions of interest for term sessional lecturer opportunities for courses offered in the 202301 Winter/Spring term (January-April 2023).

Appointments will commence January 1, 2023, thru April 30, 2023.

Qualifications for all candidates:
· Required education: Baccalaureate degree in Nursing and Masters degree* (preferably in Nursing or other health related field).
· Active registration and in good standing with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).**
· Experience teaching in post secondary settings in course credit instruction as primary instructor is an asset.
· Demonstrated ability or capacity to teach in practice and classroom settings (face-to-face and online), including familiarity/experience with online technology-enhanced, experiential, and simulation learning environments is an asset.

Qualified Nurse Practitioner applicants interested in teaching Nurse Practitioner courses will have:
· *required education: baccalaureate degree in Nursing and a Master’s degree in Nursing - Nurse Practitioner (NP) program.
· **active registration and in good standing with with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)** as a Nurse Practitioner.
· Demonstrated expertise and experience as a Nurse Practitioner in primary care settings.
· Demonstrated ability to teach in the practice and online classroom settings, and a willingness to teach and/or have experience in teaching in online technology-enhanced and experiential learning management system environments;
(Note: all Nurse Practitioner graduate programming is offered only through online distributed learning and may have several week long intensives (on-site in Victoria or online) scheduled throughout the academic calendar year).
· (for practice courses offered) must be willing to travel to various practice settings for student site visits locally (BSN courses) and provincially (Nurse Practitioner graduate courses) as nurse practitioner placements are situated within various health authorities within British Columbia. Travel is reimbursed according to university policy.

To be considered for these opportunities, you must have the following criteria:

  • Nurse Practitioner applicants: include experience as a Nurse Practitioner, including teaching experience (both in person and online; preceptorship included), capability to teach a heavy course in addition to active practice, and any specific learning goals/objectives for wanting to be a sessional instructor
  • (for practice courses offered) must be willing to travel to various practice settings for student site visits locally (BSN courses). Travel (mileage/parking) is reimbursed according to university travel policy.
