Research Assistant, DHL

Job Summary 

The Digital Health Lab at the University of Victoria is seeking a motivated and organized part time Research Assistant to support a longitudinal research project examining smartphone use, physical activity, sedentary behaviour, sleep, social connectedness, and mental wellbeing among adolescents transitioning into emerging adulthood. The study will follow participants over 24 months and use multiple methods, including passive smartphone sensing, wearable devices, ecological momentary assessments (EMA), and online questionnaires.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with ethics submissions and amendments.
• Support participant recruitment, screening, enrolment, and follow-up.
• Respond to participant inquiries and provide approved study information.
• Schedule appointments and send study reminders.
• Support questionnaires, smartphone assessments, wearables, and EMA procedures.
• Track recruitment, participation, study milestones, and follow-up.
• Maintain accurate and confidential study records.
• Prepare recruitment and study communication materials.
• Attend lab meetings and provide updates on recruitment and outstanding tasks.
• Develop and post social media recruitment materials.

Qualifications

• Working toward or completed an undergraduate or graduate degree in a health science related field (e.g., kinesiology, psychology, biology, medical science).
• Demonstrated high level of attention to detail (e.g., accurate data management).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Functional knowledge of regulations relating to conducting research (e.g., research ethics, information security/confidentiality). TCPS-2 ethics certificate is an asset.
• Ability to effectively use Excel, Teams, Word, and Zoom at an advanced level.
• Previous experience as a research assistant or with recruitment or other phone calls (e.g. customer service, clinic bookings) is an asset.
