David Kinskofer is the 2021 winner of the Department of Civil Engineering Graduation Medal. He shares a few thoughts as he embarks on the next phase of his journey.

Thoughts about graduating: First, I’d like to say that I am honored to be graduating with my fellow classmates, and for successfully achieving this accomplishment. I am also excited to begin this next chapter of my professional life.

Favourite UVic experiences: My favourite aspect of my time at UVic has simply been being exposed to an environment of lifelong learning, and meeting like-minded peers. After taking many years off after high school to pursue professional snowboarding, I hadn’t been in a school environment for some time. University was a challenging transition; however, it was rewarding to continue to push myself.

Plans for the near future: I have just started in a new position as a project coordinator at Aragon – a real estate developer in Victoria. I’m looking forward to gaining confidence in this role, working towards my professional engineering license, and seeing a project come to life from throughout its development stages.

Longer-term impact: I hope to use my engineering background to build and promote sustainable communities that have a positive impact on the people that live within them.
