Dean Ralf St. Clair reappointed to second term

Dr. Ralf St. Clair has been reappointed as dean of the Faculty of Education.

Dr. Valerie Kuehne, Vice-President Academic and Provost & Chair of the Appointment Committee for the Dean of Education announced that the recommended re-appointment of Dr. Ralf St. Clair has been ratified. Dr. St. Clair will serve as Dean of Education for a second term of three-years effective July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2022.

Dr. St. Clair was first appointed in 2014 to a five-year term as the dean of the Faculty of Education.

St. Clair looks forward to continuing to serve the Faculty of Education and working with faculty, staff, students and the community over the coming years.

"I thank the faculty community much for the trust you have placed in me by ratifying my appointment as Dean for a further three years. I know how significant this is, and it’s not a responsibility I take lightly. This is simply a fantastic faculty, and it is a huge honour represent you all and to help our community continue to develop. Special thanks, of course, to the committee members who put so much time into the process, and were so careful in their decision-making. I also wish to acknowledge that one incredibly valuable influence shaping our faculty is being located on the lands of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples, and the ongoing involvement of Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ individuals alongside other Indigenous representatives in our work. The contributions and perspectives of these cultures and communities is more valuable than I can easily express, and a huge source of learning to me as I endeavour to rise to my responsibilities.

Going forward, I hope we can strengthen our work together, and build the sense of a joint enterprise that values the enormous diversity and talent within our faculty. I’m going to be asking for your input, and listening very hard. I thank you again for the opportunity to engage in such an important and rich process," says St. Clair.
