Summer Institute
The Department of Indigenous Education has been proud to offer a Summer Institute each June since 2010. This institute is a meaningfully integrated cluster of four courses with a focus on Indigenous knowledge pedagogy and education.
About the institute
The Summer Institute is open to students currently enrolled in UVic a teacher education program. This 6-unit institute is designed for teacher candidates to learn from and about Indigenous knowledge and to make valuable connections with local Indigenous communities.
Coursework
The four courses (1.5 units each) included in the institute are:
- IED 371: The History of Indigenous Education in Canada
- IED 374: Indigenous Pedagogies
- IED 399: Special Studies in Indigenous Education
- IED 473: CENENITEL TW TOLNEW: Helping each other to learn
