The Victoria Hand Project received attention at the 2016 BC Tech Summit in Vancouver
The Victoria Hand Project, a non-profit of UVic's Biomedical Design and Systems Laboratory led by Dr. Nikolai Dechev, received attention at the 2016 BC Tech Summit in Vancouver, for their work in designing and distributing of a low-cost, high-functioning, upper limb 3D-printed prostheses to people in need. Pictured are some of the project members; Joshua Coutts, Michael Pairone, Alastair Kuzmick, Alex Burden, and Dr. Nikolai Dechev, director of the Biomedical Engineering Program, and a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
The laboratory is focused on design and development of electro-mechanical systems with application to biomedical equipment, bio-sensors, and microsystems. The combination of mechanical systems, electronics and control (i.e. mechatronics) form the core of the research conducted in the lab.
