Co-curricular experiences

Co-curricular experiences help you contribute to your communities, get involved and discover your strengths. Some co-curricular experiences include:

  • community leaders (UVic Residence)
  • campus cousins (Indigenous Academic and Community Engagement)
  • mentor and conversation partners (UVic Global Community)
  • orientation leaders (Office of Student Life)
  • student mental health bloggers (Office of Student Life)
  • research assistants (across campus)
  • workshop participation (Anti-Violence Project (AVP) and the Office of Student Life)

You can find the full list of eligible on-campus Co-Curricular Record (CCR) experiences through the co-op and career portal (choose Co-Curricular on the menu bar to browse the CCR Catalogue).

The CCR program

You can record the experiences you gain through student leadership experiences, volunteering and more through the CCR program.

The CCR program provides:

  • a university-validated record of your co-curricular involvement
  • access to opportunities available across campus
  • a way to share all your university experiences when applying for employment, graduate schools and scholarships

When you take part in CCR's hands-on experiences, your participation gets validated by a faculty or staff member. You'll receive a record of the experience which can be used in job applications, on graduate school applications and more.

Find CCR experiences

Add an existing experience to your record

As a student, you might already be taking part in an experience that qualifies for a CCR.

  1. Log in to the co-op and career portal.
  2. Click Co-Curricular.
  3. Click "Add a position to my record".
  4. Search the title of your activity or position, or use the filters to browse available options.
  5. Add the position. You can choose to add notes on the competencies you developed during your experience.
  6. An email will be sent to the validator responsible for the activity or position and they will validate your participation.

Add a new experience to your record

Are you involved in an experience that isn't currently in the CCR Catalogue? New activities must be submitted by a UVic faculty or staff member willing to verify students' participation and learning outcomes.

If you know a faculty or staff member who would like to add an activity, they can follow the instructions in the next section.

Faculty & staff

As a faculty or staff member, you may already be supervising a co-curricular experience or you may be developing this type of opportunity. Register this experience with UVic’s CCR program to help students—and yourself—make the most of this experience. You can see existing experiences in the CCR Catalogue.

CCR experiences:

  • must provide students with valuable learning opportunities
  • do not count towards academic credit
  • relate to the students' UVic experience
  • provide the opportunity to develop specific learning outcomes
  • must be validated by a UVic faculty or staff member

To add a new CCR experience

  1. Log in to the co-op and career portal.
  2. Select Co-curricular and then Add a Co-curricular Experience.
  3. Follow the instructions to enter your experience (see examples).
  4. Choose the competencies that students may develop during this experience (learn more about the Co-op and Career core competencies).
  5. Choose your validator. This is the person responsible for verifying students' engagement in the experience. When a student adds the experience to their co-curricular record, the validator will receive an email requesting approval and will log in to the portal to review and approve the request. The validator can be yourself or another faculty/staff member.

After you submit the new experience

A co-curricular administrator will review your experience and approve it, or they'll contact you for further information.

Once you add the experience to the CCR Catalogue, students can choose it for their record.
