Bookstore

The Bookstore is currently not hiring, please check back for any updates.

Hiring procedures:
- Student cashier/Bookstore staff - Hire students for part-time and casual cashiers/bookstore staff, start hiring the second week of August (apply in person)
- Employment is usually short - approx. 2-3 weeks
- Rehire a lot of returning students
- Hire in the 1st or 2nd week of December for January
- Hire in the 1st or 2nd week of June for July
- Looking for cashiers with experience in large, busy stores or banks
- For receiving, must be physically fit in order to lift heavy boxes up to 50 lbs.
- Contact Bookstore Manager to apply. Bring a completed application form (can be found on the Bookstore website or in-store), resume and class schedule.
- Regalia assistants - The Bookstore often hires students as casual employees to hand out regalia during UVic's Spring and Fall convocations
- Jobs are temporary - usually for only 4 or 5 days
- The shifts are usually for 6 hours, but may run for 5-7 hours
- The pay rate is $16.84/hr

Rate of pay:
- $14.60/hour
Hiring procedures:
- Positions are available year-round. Hiring takes place in September, January and April.
- Hours: Monday to Wednesday 5-9 p.m., Thursday 4-8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Sunday 2-6 p.m.
- Must be committed to work a minimum of two shifts per week (4 hours per shift)

Graduate Students' Society

University Centre Farquhar Auditorium

Positions:
The University Centre Farquhar Auditorium hires approximately 30-35 students each September as front of house staff. The number of shifts vary month to month dependant on auditorium use. Shifts are self-sign up, with the majority of shifts taking place on evenings and weekends.
Applicants must have previous customer service experience. Experience within the performing arts would be considered an asset, as would a certificate in First Aid, CPR, FoodSafe or SuperHost.

UVic Staffing Solutions
Positions:
UVic Staffing Solutions (USS) coordinates casual, on-call staff positions at UVic. Students can set their own availability to work around class schedules and can work in a variety of positions including:
- Administrative assistant
- Project support
- Campus ambassadors
Hiring procedures:
- Resumes are accepted throughout the year
- Positions available tend to increase at the end of August

UVic Students' Society (UVSS)
Offices located in: Student Union Building
Positions:
- Hires student positions and permanent staff
- All student positions in the SUB are unionized under the United Steelworkers of America with the exception of the theatre projectionists who are unionized under the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees. The only student positions in the SUB which are not unionized are Work Study and Summer Career Placement positions.
Rate of pay:
- Varies from $13.85/hour for a general worker position up to $15.95/hour for a supervising position
Hiring procedures:
- Collective agreement requires that all positions be posted within the SUB for one week. If they are not filled internally, external candidates are considered.
- Application forms can be found on the UVSS website and must be submited along with a current resume as specified on the job posting.
- Most hiring occurs in August, September and early January but positions are posted all year long when they become available.
- Part-time student positions are only available to undergraduate students in good standing
