The recognition of students’ academic success is important to the university. We are proud of the resilience our students have shown in these ever-changing times. UVic looks forward to honouring our graduating students as they embark on the next phase of their lives.

The graduating class of 2020:

  • Will be invited to attend a future in-person convocation over the next three years.
  • Are being given the option to receive a Grad Box, which will contain their parchment (diploma/certificate), printed program, mortarboard and tassel and alumni pin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Has Spring Convocation been postponed?

Yes, the convocation ceremonies previously scheduled for June 8 to 12, 2020 have been postponed. The graduating class of 2020 will be invited to attend a future in-person convocation over the next three years, and are being given the option to receive a Grad Box, which will contain their parchment (diploma/certificate), printed program, mortarboard and tassel and alumni pin.

Will I still graduate even though there is no Spring convocation ceremony?

Yes, students who have successfully completed the requirements for their degree, diploma or certificate, will graduate.

When will my degree be awarded?

Due to the extension of the grading deadline for instructors and time necessary for students to consider their grading options, the degrees, diplomas and certificates will be officially awarded on July 15, 2020. When will I receive my degree parchment (diploma)?

Those students who have completed the online registration will be sent their degree parchment (diploma) following July 15, 2020 when credentials have been awarded.

How can I receive my degree parchment (diploma)? Can it be sent to me?

Please complete the online registration to indicate where to have your degree parchment (diploma) mailed.

Do I need to resubmit the address I would like my diploma mailed to if I already asked to have it mailed to me?

Yes, you will need to complete the online registration to confirm where you want your diploma mailed.  You will also need to indicate if you would like to receive a Grad Box.

Do I have to receive a Grad Box?

No, it is optional. In the online registration students can select if they would like to have a Grad Box.

Does having my degree parchment (diploma) and/or Grad Box mailed to me cost anything?

No, your degree parchment (diploma) and/or Grad Box will be sent by the university to the address indicated in your registration.

How do I register for future convocations?

You will be invited to participate in upcoming ceremonies, in the next three years, when it is safe to bring people together again.

I registered to attend Spring Convocation and requested guest tickets. Do I need to cancel anything?

No, we will take care of cancelling all registrations and guest tickets for Spring Convocation.

Can I rent regalia or purchase regalia?

Students are able to rent and purchase regalia through the UVic Bookstore.  Please visit https://www.uvicbookstore.ca/info/capandgownfaq for more in information.

I've already paid for my regalia. Can I receive a refund?

Yes, you may receive a refund for your regalia rental. You will be refunded to the same card used for the original payment. If you ordered your regalia online, the refund will happen automatically. If you ordered regalia in-person, you will need to contact the UVic Bookstore by email (bookstore@uvic.ca) or phone at 250-721-8311. It may take time to process all the refunds due to limited staffing levels.

Will I be refunded for the diploma frame I purchased?

Yes, you may have your diploma frame purchase refunded. If you requested the Advance Frame Order Pick-up option, you will be refunded the purchase amount automatically. The refund will be processed on the same card used for the original payment. If not, you will need to contact the UVic Bookstore by email (bookstore@uvic.ca) or phone at 250-721-8311. It may take time to process all the refunds due to limited staffing levels.

My family has booked travel – what about refunds?

We recommend connecting with your airline and hotel to discuss your options.

Can I still have graduation photos taken?

At this time, UVIC Photo Services is closed and unable to take graduation photos.
