Union agrees to start negotiations
With the recent ratification of the CUPE 4163 (3) collective agreement, CUPE has now agreed to begin CUPE 917 bargaining on November 19.
Employees in trades, the athletics department, grounds workers, security officers, facility attendants and janitorial, maintenance and food service workers among others are represented in collective bargaining by CUPE 917, representing approximately 900 staff (440 FTE positions).
The current collective agreement between the University of Victoria and CUPE 917 expired March 31, 2019. Members of the bargaining team look forward to collegial negotiations and a mutually satisfactory conclusion.

While the university had hoped that negotiations with CUPE local 917 would start the week of September 16, CUPE has asked to defer bargaining until after mediation with Component 3 of CUPE local 4163 concludes and the essential services designation process in complete.
Negotiations are set to begin the week of Sept. 16, with dates scheduled through the fall semester.
