CUPE 4163 (Component 3) bargaining

Employees comprise three component groups, known as the University of Victoria’s educational employees, each with separate collective agreement language. Component 3 includes continuing instructors, sessional instructors and music performance instructors.

CUPE 4163 - Component 3 represents up to 850 sessional instructors over the course of an academic year.

The current collective agreement between the University of Victoria and CUPE 4163 (Component 3) expired April 30, 2019. Negotiations for renewal of the collective agreement began in March 2019 and successfully concluded with a tentative agreement on September 19.

CUPE 4163 Bargaining Update

On Aug. 8, the university tabled a full settlement package in an effort to successfully conclude negotiations and avoid any disruption that the union’s job action could have on students, faculty and other staff. Unfortunately, the union’s negotiating team not only rejected the university’s offer, but also declined to table a counter proposal, or book a future negotiation session.
