Resizing an image with Pixlr

This tutorial covers an easy way to crop and resize images, with no special software required. Do not use Cascade to resize your images.

1. Go to https://pixlr.com. There is no need to login.

2. Scroll down to view the two editing options. Launch the Pixlr Editor web app.

3. You will be prompted to open your photo. Choose the second option Open Image From Computer.

4. Select your image and click Open.

5. The crop options are located above the image. Click Constraint to open the dropdown menu and choose Output size.

6. Change the Width and Height to the appropriate dimensions. Draw a box over your image with your mouse. Click and hold the corners of the box to make it bigger or smaller. You can move it around by clicking inside the box. Hit the enter key to crop the photo.

7. In the menu bar along the top of the page click File. In the dropdown menu choose Save.

8. Change the name of your photo in order to save the cropped version as a copy.

Tip: Start the name of your cropped photo with the reference to what it will be used for. For example:

  • billboard-students-studying.jpg
  • main-fountain-summer.jpg
  • profile-doe-jane.jpg

Remember to only use lower case letters, numbers, and dashes in your file names. Never use spaces!

Under Format choose JPEG. Under Quality drag the slider to 100. Click Ok.

9. Choose your location and click Save.
