How to conduct an academic program review

Academic program reviews assist academic units in evaluating, through a process of informed judgement, the quality and suitability of academic endeavours with a view to further improvement.  It also provides internal and external accountability of academic programs.

Accreditation or reaccreditation by the relevant professional organization may be substituted for an APR. 

Administrative process and procedures

  • Academic Program Review (APR) shall be scheduled according to policy AC 1145 or may be requested by the academic unit or Dean.  Units undergoing APR shall identify a faculty coordinate and administrative coordinator to work closely with the Academic Planning and Programs Unit.
  • Academic units shall follow the guidelines provided in the Procedures for Academic Program Reviews and utilize the unit's current Enhanced Planning Tools report.
  • A workshop to assist and prepare units for this process is scheduled twice a year.
