Strategic Framework Experiential Learning Fund (SF-ELF)

At UVic, hands-on experiential learning is an essential part of the student experience. To support students as they pursue community-based learning opportunities, the university provides a range of funding opportunities for students and employers both in Canada and abroad.

Various funding opportunities are available through four areas:

Associate Vice-President Academic Planning (AVPAP)

Funding for travel stipends for internships and field schools outside the Greater Victoria region as well as outside B.C. and in international locations.

Total 2019/20 allocation = $55,000


Practica Placements.

Total 2019/20 allocation = $20,000

Applications must be approved and submitted by your Dean.

Learning and Teaching Support and Innovation (LTSI)

Funding for the development and delivery of new or expanded experiential learning opportunities.

Total per year allocation = $50,000

Co-operative Education and Career Services

Funding Plan for a Wage Subsidy Program for Co-operative Education Not-for-Profits placements and Unwaged Entrepreneurial Work Term placements.

Total per year allocation = $125,000


Co-operative Education Placements: Non-Profit and For-Profit Organizations travel stipends.

Total per year allocation = $95,000

Indigenous Academic and Community Engagement

Funding Plan for a Wage Subsidy Program for Indigenous Co-operative Education student placements with Indigenous community organizations.

Total per year allocation = $50,000


Funding Plan for the Indigenous International Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Exchange Program.

Total per year allocation = $80,000

Application Deadline

Faculties may determine application deadlines. All funds must be used by March 31 of the funding year.

Selection criteria

All complete, eligible applications received by the deadline will be assessed by merit based on the following criteria:

  • The learning opportunity the placement will provide
  • Relevance to the student’s area of study
  • Relevance to the student’s career aspirations
  • The student’s academic grade point average
  • Any discipline specific criteria as set by the Faculty
  • Level of student's finanical need
     

Eligibility requirements

  • Applicants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students who are attending internships or field schools at an international location or anywhere in Canada excluding the local Victoria region
  • Applicants must be formally registered in an internship or field school
  • The internship or field school must be approved by the Dean as suitable for credit toward the student’s degree.
