Faculty awards and achievements

As reflected in our Strategic Framework, UVic will attract, support and develop a diverse community of talented faculty through enhanced resources and programs—including academic chair positions, awards and initiatives that recognize excellence and promote wellness.

President's Chairs

The President’s Chair is the highest academic honour UVic can bestow on a faculty member. Ten President’s Chair positions were established in 2020 to recognize faculty who have achieved great distinction in research and research-inspired teaching; made substantial contributions to UVic and the wider community; and are capable of championing excellence in research, teaching and community-university engagement.

UVic is proud to award this designation to the following outstanding faculty members:

REACH Awards

The REACH Awards honour the extraordinary teachers and researchers who lead the way in dynamic learning and make a vital impact at UVic, in the classroom and beyond.

Provost’s Advocacy and Activism Awards in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

The Provost's Advocacy and Activism Awards in EDI recognize the achievements of individuals or groups in the university community (current students, faculty, staff and alumni) who demonstrate dedication to the advancement of social equity through advocacy and/or activism. These awards also celebrate individuals or groups who go beyond the expectations of one’s job, position or responsibility to advance the rights of others.

Distinguished Women Scholars Awards

The Distinguished Women Scholars Awards and Lecture Series were established by the Provost to highlight and honour outstanding research and creative achievements by female-identifying scholars. The purpose of these awards is to celebrate, recognize and share the impact of outstanding research and creative achievements by women at any stage of their careers.

Other faculty awards and recognition

The Division of Learning and Teaching Support and Innovation administers additional teaching awards, as do individual Faculties.
